Sporting's pre-season preparations are well underway, and they are showing great form in their friendly matches. After thrashing Estrela da Amadora 4-1 in the morning, the Lions faced Marítimo in a training match in the afternoon. In this encounter, they secured a convincing 3-0 victory.
Francisco Trincão was the standout performer of the game, scoring two goals to contribute to the team's victory. Geny Catamo also found the back of the net, showcasing the attacking prowess of the Sporting team.
However, the most notable aspect of the match was the tactical experimentation by coach Rúben Amorim. Known for his preference for a 3-4-3 formation, Amorim decided to try out a different approach this time. The team lined up in a 4-3-3 formation when attacking and switched to a 3-4-3 when defending. This allowed one of the central defenders to drop back and act as a defensive midfielder.
Although the new tactical strategy is still in its early stages, it yielded positive results against Marítimo. The players adapted well to the change and showcased their versatility on the pitch.
The Sporting squad will now head to the Algarve for a training camp that will last until the 26th of July. During this camp, they will engage in friendly matches against Portimonense, Genk, and Real Sociedad.
Overall, the team's pre-season performances indicate a strong start to the upcoming season. With Trincão in great form and tactical experimentation yielding positive results, Sporting fans have reason to be optimistic about the team's prospects for the new campaign.
